Overview of an on-grid solar system

An on-grid solar system, also known as a grid-tied system, is directly connected to the main power grid. It’s the most popular choice for Indian households with consistent electricity supply — and Fabritech Solar specializes in the design and installation of on-grid rooftop systems for both individual homes and housing societies.

Every Fabritech on-grid installation is a smart combination of:

We offer on-grid systems in various capacities such as 2 kW, 3 kW, 5 kW, 10 kW, and more – customized to match your household’s energy consumption.

For reference:

With Fabritech Solar, you not only reduce your electricity bills — you also gain access to government subsidies and long-term savings.

Net Metering Works in an On-Grid Solar System

An on-grid solar system operates on the smart principle of net metering - a billing mechanism that helps you track and optimize your electricity usage.

With net metering, your bi-directional meter records:

At the end of each billing cycle, your electricity provider (discom) reviews this data:

Net metering ensures you only pay for what you actually use — making solar even more cost-effective and efficient.

Subsidy on the installation of On-grid solar system

Here is an example calculation for your reference:

System size New subsidy rates (for applications filed on or before February 13, 2024)
1kW ₹30,000
2kW ₹60,000
3kW ₹78,000
5kW ₹78,000

FAQs

An on-grid solar system – as the name suggests -is directly connected to the electricity grid. It works with a net meter (bi-directional meter) that measures both the electricity your solar system exports to the grid during the day and the electricity you import when your system isn’t producing enough power.

The benefit of an on-grid system is that if you need more electricity than your solar system produces, you can use the electricity from the grid.

The operation of an on-grid solar system is simple and efficient. Here’s how it powers your home:

  1. Solar panels capture sunlight and generate DC (Direct Current) electricity.
  2. This DC power is sent to a solar inverter.
  3. The inverter converts DC into AC (Alternating Current) — the form of electricity your appliances use.
  4. AC power runs your home’s electrical devices during the day.
  5. Excess electricity generated during the daytime is fed back into the grid through a net meter.
  6. At night, when the system isn’t producing electricity, your home draws power from the grid using the exported units, ensuring 24/7 availability.

The right solar system depends entirely on where you live and your electricity access:

If you live in a city with a stable electricity supply, an on-grid solar system connects to the grid, offers net metering benefits, and can reduce your electricity bills.

If you’re in a rural or remote area without access to the power grid, an off-grid solar system operates independently through battery storage.
